Abstract

Oral diseases remain among the most prevalent chronic health conditions worldwide, affecting individuals across all age groups. Despite advances in dental care, disparities in oral health persist due to socioeconomic, geographic, and educational barriers. Community-based dental health promotion programs have emerged as effective strategies to improve oral health awareness, encourage preventive behaviors, and reduce disease burden at the population level. These programs focus on education, prevention, early intervention, and community participation to address oral health inequities. This review examines the principles, implementation strategies, effectiveness, challenges, and future directions of community-based dental health promotion programs. Evidence suggests that school-based interventions, mobile dental clinics, community outreach initiatives, fluoride programs, and oral health campaigns significantly improve oral hygiene practices and reduce dental caries prevalence. The integration of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and community partnerships offers promising opportunities for enhancing program reach and sustainability. Comprehensive community engagement and policy support are essential for long-term success.
