Abstract

Oral health is an integral component of overall health and well-being. Despite significant advancements in preventive dentistry, dental caries, gingivitis, and other oral diseases remain prevalent among school-aged children worldwide. Oral Health Education Programs (OHEPs) implemented in schools serve as effective strategies to promote oral hygiene awareness, encourage healthy behaviors, and prevent oral diseases from an early age. Schools provide an ideal setting for health promotion due to their structured environment and ability to reach large populations of children. This review explores the importance, design, implementation, effectiveness, and future directions of oral health education programs for school children. Various educational approaches, including classroom-based instruction, interactive learning, digital technologies, peer-led interventions, and community participation, are discussed. Evidence suggests that comprehensive school-based oral health programs significantly improve oral hygiene practices, reduce disease prevalence, and foster lifelong healthy habits.
